The area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is consequently protected. Building structures is not un-common but they are functional buildings related to the use and management of the land.
Kielder Water and the forest park within the district have established a precedent for contemporary buildings and pavilions set within a landscape. Group Ginger have been asked to interpret the traditional lunch hut as a contemporary pavilion, designed to enhance the enjoyment of the landscape.
