Space2 is an award-winning arts and social change charity, based in East Leeds. In 2017 the charity was able to move into the heart of the community, at the newly refurbished Old Fire Station in Gipton. Space2 create conditions through projects that generate creativity and aspire collaboration. They believe art supports positive health and wellbeing, connects people and creative societies reducing isolation.

Working with Space 2 group ginger helped prepare a successful Arts Council England grant application to secure capital funds to fit out of the old Fire station and develop bespoke furniture design to maximise the charities use of the existing spaces to create a cost effective interior supportive of their social values and charitable aims. Group Ginger have supported the charity through the development and procurement, project managing the process; providing drawings, description of works and schedule of items to accurately describe the works required and the fixtures and fittings to be installed. We have coordinated the implementation of the works required in a collaborative manner with local suppliers.

Group Ginger prepared bespoke furniture designs for the spaces, developing 3d digital models for each item before creating prototype models in our workshop. Prototype mock ups enabled the design to be developed collaboratively with a local fabrication workshop to manufacture the furniture to the extremely tight budget.

The project provides a flexible and adaptable space with a unique personality which reinforces the charities message. The proposals bring several elements together to provide a coordinated approach

and a collaborative working environment.
